    SFI: Using Keywords In Your Target Market

    Note: This Tidbit focuses on the SFI Affiliate Program, however, the tips contained here can be used by other online home-business owners...

    Q: I use keywords with my pay-per-clicks. Is there more that I can do to get a better conversion rate? Also, are there any other ways to use keywords more effectively in my retail marketing?

    Keywords and phrases should be used in every aspect of your marketing, whether it be on or offline. After all, they are helping you target your market.

    In the last Marketing Tidbits, I explained how and why I chose the products I did. In this Marketing Tidbits, I will explain how I go about choosing my keywords and phrases for those products.

    For a quick recap of the categories and products from last Marketing Tidbits, here are the four product categories that I chose from the Veriuni Store:

    1. Food
    2. Wellness/Nutrition
    3. Magazine Rack
    4. Telecommunications

    The items I chose are as follows:

    1. Food category: Java Coffee

    2. Wellness/Nutrition:
    Veriuni Advanced Oxidant with Red Wine Extract
    Veriuni Advanced Liquid Nutrition
    Veriuni Advanced Weight Loss

    3. Magazine Rack: All of the categories

    4. Telecommunications: Long Distance Phone Services

    I will start with choosing the keywords and phrases for pay-per-click search engines. Now that I know the products and categories I have chosen, I start picking my keywords with three different keyword search tools. By using the following, you can pick quite a few keywords and phrases to use in your pay-per-click search engines.

    First, I go to the following keyword search sites and start with the categories for the products that I have chosen. I either write down the keywords and phrases, print the page, copy and paste them to a word processing document, or type them directly into the pay-per-click search engine.

    * Overture's Keyword Selector Tool: Overture's Keyword Selector Tool lets you search for your keyword and phrases related to your sites.

    * Goodkeywords.com: Good Keywords is a free software download that lets you search for keywords and phrases that you can use in your pay-per-click ad campaigns and Websites.

    * Wordtracker.com: Wordtracker site has a free trial, or you can pay for your keywords and have them emailed to you. I suggest just using the free trial, as this can give you the list of words and phrases that you need for submitting to search engines that you plan to use.

    Then, I move on to the individual items and do the same thing. By the time you are done with the three keyword search tools, you should have a very nice list of keywords and phrases.

    I then go to the following two sites and choose the pay-per-click search engines that best fit the products I am going to advertise. While you are at each site, check out their keywords as well and any new ones you find to your list of keywords and phrases:

    * Pay-per-click Search Engines

    * Webmaster.net

    Now that you have your pay-per-click search engines set up, be sure to go back at least once a week to check what keywords and phrases are pulling in your clicks. Keep track of these clicks over a month's time and delete the ones that haven't received any clicks at all. Then over the next two to three months, watch the lowest clicked words and phrases and start deleting them.

    You will also want to keep checking back with the keyword search tools to check on your keyword popularity. In some instances, I have found new words and phrases to add to my lists. The average surfer has a tendency to change some of their searching habits.

    Now that I have covered keywords and pay-per-clicks it is time for you to know how I use keywords in selecting free classified advertising sites. Keep in mind that we are talking about using these tools for retail selling.

    I'll start by using the same categories I mentioned in searching for classified sites. I type the following types of search phrases into search engines:

    free food classified sites
    free wellness classified sites
    free nutrition classified sites
    free magazine classified sites
    free telecommunication classified sites

    I then go through several of the pages on each of the search engines, adding the sites to Adwizard. Sometimes I go ahead and place my ads once I have gone through the searches on at least three search engines; sometimes I wait until I am done with several searches. I usually can find at least 20 to 50 classified sites with each different keyword and phrase search.

    I then go to the next type of keyword search using the same technique. Wondering what I mean by this? I change the keyword or make it a keyword phrase in the same category.

    For example:

    free coffee classified sites
    free cooking classified sites

    With these two phrases then, I am able to advertise the Veriuni Java Coffee product or any of the cooking magazines in these classifieds. Yes, this is time consuming, but it can be very well worth the time as you are now competing less against other Strong Future International Affiliates.

    You then will need to continue this with more specific keywords and phrases for each individual product. The more different types of keywords and phrases you use, just like with the pay-per-clicks, the more sites you will have with which to advertise.

    Now, if you are using your own personal Website, don't forget to make sure that you have some of these keywords and phrases in the content of your Website for better searches on search engines as well. You will also need to have some of the keywords in your meta tags.

    In all these techniques, using more specific keywords and phrases will help drive specific traffic of target groups of people looking for what you have to offer them.

    How To Generate Traffic Using Only Free Methods

    Putting up a company Website requires many things. To get straight to the point, first you need capital. To make money requires spending money as well. Nevertheless, with the versatility the Internet offers, there are many ways that could help optimize the potential of your site or business in generating traffic.

    While there are ways to jumpstart your traffic flow, many sites don’t have the resources to spend on advertising that would generate more traffic. Well, you don’t have to spend a cent; all you need is the proper mindset and a lot of eagerness. You also must have the drive and perseverance to do hard work and research to generate more traffic for your site.

    How sweet it is to have more site traffic without spending a single cent. Now it’s a sure thing that many sites have articles that offer tips and guidelines in how to generate traffic using only free methods. Typically when you don’t have money to spend on marketing, you should be prepared to take more time to use other methods. I’m not going to mislead you. You get better exposure with paid advertising, but at least you get a fighting chance with some of these free methods I’m about to share with you.

    Take advantage of online forums and online communities.

    The great thing about forums and online communities is that you can target a certain group that fits a certain demographic that you are looking for. You can discuss many things about the niche that you represent or offer. Another great advantage is that you know what you are getting into and you will be prepared.

    With online communities and forums, you can build a reputation for your company. Show them what you can offer and wow them with your range of expertise about the subject. With that you can build a reputation and build trust with the people in your expertise and knowledge.

    You can also use newsletters.

    Give people a catalog of your products along with interesting and entertaining articles. If you give people quality content more people will sign up for your newsletter and recommend it to other people. The more people who sign up for your newsletter, the more people there will be that will go to your site to check it out.

    Exchange links with other sites.

    You don’t have to spend a cent for this one. All you have to do is reach an agreement with another webmaster. By exchanging links, the efforts of both sites are combined for mutual benefit. All traffic that goes to one site could potentially click on the link of the other site and visit it site too. This works well, especially when both sites appeal to the same niche or compatible niches. A wedding planner’s Website, for instance, would benefit by having links to a Photographer’s Website and a Printer’s Website and a Caterer’s Website. It makes the wedding planner look knowledgeable and efficient, and the other professionals (the photographer, the printer, and the caterer) will certainly benefit from visitors that come from the wedding planner. They might even consider giving the wedding planner’s customers a discount!

    Write articles that could pique the attention of people who have interest in your product.

    Try to write articles that will provide tips and guides to other aficionados – give information that will solve their problems or help them with something they’re seeking. Good service and good information from you will help cement your reputation and your readers’ trust.

    Many sites offer free submission and posting of your articles.

    When people find your articles interesting, there’s a good chance they will follow the links in your author signature and visit your Website. Always include a link or a brief description of your company with the article and there is a great probability that they will go to your site.

    Write good content for your site.

    Many search engines track down the keywords and keyword phrases your site uses and how they are used. It is not a requirement that content should be done by a professional content writer. You could do your own, but you have to make content for your site that is entertaining and informational.

    Generally, Internet surfers use search engines to find what they are looking for. Search engines in return use keyword searching to generate their search results. With the right keywords attached to your site, you could get high rankings in search engine results without spending much money.

    All these methods and more will drive more traffic to your site for free.

    All it takes is a bit of effort and a good bit of time. Learn all you can about the methods depicted here and you will soon have a site with a great traffic flow without the usual costs that more traditional paid advertising would incur. Better yet, combine the two approaches for a slam-dunk.

The high speed part is very important and can be substituted with a broadband Internet. This would ensure all remote, customer service jobs would appear in the search results box.

    Since the position is working at home, mentioning Internet is important, as brick-and-mortar customer service positions would not require this as part of a job description.     First things first. Gain control over your spending today - Honestly evaluate your spending habits and identify where your money is going. Are you living beyond your means and buying things you don't really need?

    In The Millionaire Next Door, by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko, a focus group interview of ten first generation millionaires revealed that most millionaires don't own expensive clothes, watches or other status objects, and you won't find them driving brand new luxury cars.

    A millionaire Texan coined the expression, "Big Hat No Cattle" to illustrate the fact that many people like to create the illusion of wealth by making extravagant purchases yet have little to no financial wealth.

    Many of these people are deep in debt and if they were to lose their jobs today, wouldn't be able to survive three months on their savings.

    Take control over unnecessary spending. Do you NEED 50 pairs of shoes and a matching purse for each? Do you NEED a new vehicle every three years? Before making a purchase, ask yourself if it will contribute to your building a successful business or take you further away from it.

    Create a budget - Do you know how much money you're bringing in each month and how much is going out? Budgeting doesn't have to be unpleasant or difficult and if you don't know where to begin, there are a multitude of helpful resources and articles on the Internet to get you started at no cost.

    Successful business owners understand the importance of a budget and follow it faithfully.

    If you have no interest or willingness to learn how to budget your money, business ownership is not for you.

    Increase your financial IQ - You don't have to become a financial genius or investment guru, but you do need to have the basic skills.     Explore Sources of Capital - The first year may require significant investment in equipment, education and marketing and there's no guarantee your business will start making money right away.

    Unless you have significant savings put aside for the start-up period, you will need to explore alternate sources of capital.

    Explore financing options through government programs, start-up loans, angel investors, partnerships, friends and family, and although I don't recommend this one unless you are proven financially responsible, credit cards.

    Depending on your product or service, perhaps pre-selling to your clients and customers would be feasible. Suppliers might also provide the start-up money you need.

    If you borrow money, even if from family or friends, always get agreements in writing and make sure the loans are set up with proper security, terms and conditions and a payment schedule.

    Think and act like a business owner - When you transition from employee to entrepreneur, you will require a shift in your thinking. You will quickly discover that trying to get everything for free or at a "deal" will actually hinder your success.

    In the business world, you will be required to develop win-win relationships. If you require something of someone, how will you help him in return? Practice the Law of Reciprocity which means, learn to give and take mutually. In other words, when someone gives you something, give something of equal value back.

    Master these five areas and you will significantly increase your ability to succeed.

    As you make financial decisions and begin to build your business ask yourself, "Is this the best use of my money in terms of supporting my business?" This evaluation process will become second nature through practice and will support you in making smart financial decisions.

    One of the biggest mistakes new home-based business owners make is trying to do everything from square one.

    You can rest assured that whatever you are attempting to do or build, it has already been done.

    Sure, it probably won't be a mirror image of what you're doing, but it will have many of the same basic ingredients.

    The fastest and easiest way to get your business going and growing is by finding others who have already done what you want to do and learning and benefiting from their efforts.

    A local business person recently told me he was in the process of building an autoresponder. Of course, this wouldn't be a strange thing to be doing if it was a service he plans to sell, but it has nothing to do with his business!

    Instead of investing a few hours to explore those autoresponders already in existence, he is investing well more than a hundred hours trying to build one on his own so he can communicate with his customers.

    By conducting only a couple of hours research, he would have discovered a variety of outstanding, affordable autoresponder services that are highly sophisticated and subject to continual upgrading and improvement to keep up with ever-changing technology and consumer needs.

    Imagine the kind of business he could have generated for himself if he focused those one hundred plus hours acquiring new customers for his business and expanding and improving on his products and services!

    Unfortunately, like him, many new home business owners are still of the employee mindset -- that they have to work relentlessly and do everything alone.

    They haven't yet developed the entrepreneurial mindset that understands you have to work smarter, not harder.

    Another time-consuming task many new business owners take on is spending hours, even days, trying to design the perfect logo. I'm embarrassed to say I spent DAYS searching the Internet for sample logos, looking for ideas, then sitting and drawing possible logo after logo.

    Most people have more creative flair in their big toe than I have in my entire body, yet I thought that if I put enough time into it, even though it meant not focusing on increasing business, the perfect logo would reveal itself.

    I eventually abandoned the obsession and as soon as I handed the project over to my web designer, I had a new, effective and eye-catching logo within 24 hours.

    It was a costly mistake. I had spent so many years working in a support capacity that I didn't know how to make the shift to a leader capacity and delegate the task.

    (Even more important, I later realized, having a logo is waaaay down on the priority scale and doesn't even have to be considered during the start-up period.)

    As you are starting your business, consider the following tasks and ask yourself if someone else could be doing them while you focus on building:

    * designing brochures and marketing materials
    * creating your web site
    * setting up your voice mail and e-mail
    * purchasing supplies and equipment
    * stuffing envelopes and taking them to the post office, or delivering flyers
    * market research
    * hooking up your new computer, modem, fax and installing software
    * trouble shooting computer problems
    * writing articles, reports or white papers

    These are not revenue generating activities and if you find them challenging or time-consuming, delegate these tasks to someone else like a family member, co-op student or part-time assistant.

    For the more specialized items, seek the input of a mastermind member or business colleague on how they handle those responsibilities. Also, hire or barter with experts in marketing, web design and technology.

    Another wheel you don't need to re-invent is that of processes, particularly in the area of marketing.

    Marketing may not be your forte, yet it is the most important element of your business, and this is where many new home business owners bury themselves.

    The good news is you don't have to develop your marketing process by trial and error. Commit several days to studying other businesses both in and outside of your industry. How do they promote themselves? How do they collect leads? How do they convert leads?

    In other words, how do they catch the attention of potential customers, get them to express an interest to learn more, and how do they get them to ultimately pull out their wallets and buy?

    The quickest and easiest way to create winning processes is to study already successful businesses, then model what they do. Sign up for their newsletters and request additional information. Let them begin a courtship with you and pay attention to what they're doing. Buy a product or two and see what tools they use to keep inviting you back for more.

    This doesn't mean copy them word for word or action by action, but assimilate what works, mould it to your specific business and add the essential ingredient of uniqueness that allows you to stand out from the crowd.

    These are just three simple strategies you can start with today to get on the fast-track to home business success.

    Again, here they are in a nutshell:

    1. Uncover what has already been created or invented, then implement or install. Don't reinvent the wheel.
    2. Think like a business owner, not an employee. Delegate, hire or trade.
    3. Model the processes of others who have already achieved the level of success you're seeking. They've already made the mistakes for you and know what works.

    Incorporate these strategies and you will shave hours and dollars from your start-up curve and begin reaping the rewards faster than you ever thought possible.
